Dr. Giannakopoulos was born in Athens, Greece, in 1980. He received the Degree in Informatics and Telecommunications from the University of Athens (UOA), Athens, Greece, in 2002, the M.Sc. (Honors) Diploma in signal and image processing from the University of Patras, Patras, Greece, in 2004 and the Ph.D. degree in the department of Informatics and Telecommunications, UOA, in 2009. He is currently a Research Associate in the IIT, NCSR. He is the co-author of more than 70 publications in journals and conferences in the fields of pattern recognition and multimedia analysis and the co-author of a book “Introduction to Audio Analysis: A MATLAB Approach” (Elsevier Academic Press, 2014). He has awarded two best-paper awards (at MMSP2007 and ICMLA2010) and he is an active member the open source community, mainly in Matlab (13 open source Matlab submissions at Mathworks File Exchange, ranked inpos 69 out of ~30000) and Python (7 open source Python repositories submitted at github, ranked in top 0.5% of Python users according to gitawards.com).
